Last week, Quintana Roo, the jewel of the Mexican Caribbean, celebrated its 49th anniversary as a free and sovereign state of the Mexican Republic. The genesis of this vibrant state can be traced back to a historic presidential decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on October 8, 1974, during the administration of former President Luis Echeverría.

Despite being one of Mexico's youngest states, Quintana Roo has achieved remarkable recognition on both the national and international stages. Its meteoric rise to prominence can be attributed to its abundant historical, cultural, and culinary heritage, showcased through several renowned tourist destinations. Among these treasures are the world-famous Cancun, the mystical Riviera Maya, the enchanting Cozumel Island, the serene Isla Mujeres, the vibrant Chetumal, the mesmerizing Bacalar, and the idyllic Holbox, to name just a few.
