Fish and seafood should be consumed two to three times a week because they are nutritious, tasty, and easy to prepare; therefore, these are the largest markets in the country where you can find a great variety of fish and aquaculture products.

In the first place, you can visit La Nueva Viga market, located in the southwest part of the Central de Abasto, in Mexico City; it is the largest fish and seafood market in Latin America and the second-largest in the world, the first one is Tsukiji market, located in Tokyo, Japan.

This market sells 65 percent of the national production of flake fish and an important volume of mollusks and crustaceans; some of the products you can find in this place are mackerel, sea bass, mullet, tilapia, sardine, tuna, squid, octopus, trout, shrimp, oyster, sea bream, grouper, snook, and crab.

The second stall is the Zapopan Sea Market, located in Zapopan, Jalisco; this place mainly sells fish and seafood from the Ciénega and coastal areas of the state. Some of the products you can find in this market are tilapia, catfish, frog, trout, octopus, sierra, jack mackerel, snapper, red snapper, shrimp, tuna, and oyster.

Based on information from Conapesca, there are more than two thousand commercial establishments in the country (supermarkets, public markets, and fishmongers) where approximately 65 species of fish and seafood are sold, on average per season.
