The governor of the state of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, confirmed on his Twitter account the identity of Ariel Treviño "El Tigre", one of the assailants killed in the events in Matamoros.

In his Twitter account, the governor of the state of Tamaulipas, Francisco Javier García Cabeza de Vaca, confirmed the fact of the identity of Ariel Treviño "El Tigre", one of the assailants killed in the events of Matamoros. The government of Tamaulipas reiterates that it will use all the resources at its disposal and will spare no effort in the fight against criminal groups. There will be no truce against violent groups.

After the shooting that took place last night in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, it was officially reported that Ariel Treviño Peña, alias "El Tigre", leader of the Gulf Cartel, was killed during the confrontation with state police and military personnel, where two of his bodyguards were also killed and four people were arrested.

The State Coordination Group for the Construction of Peace in Tamaulipas reported that while the uniformed officers were carrying out surveillance work, they were attacked by the crew of several vehicles, which were stopped and shooting began that spread over 15 points of the border city, where thousands of shell casings were fired, and vehicles were set on fire to obstruct the passage of police reinforcements.

During the clashes, one person was killed by a stray bullet, while two others were slightly injured. The federal ministerial authority is conducting the relevant investigations to clarify the facts, as Treviño has been considered a priority target for justice in Tamaulipas and the United States.
