Tulum, renowned for its picturesque landscapes and Mayan heritage, has recently emerged as a beacon of luxury and opportunity with the inauguration of the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” International Airport. In a recent statement, Jorge Molina Pérez, the General Director of Tourism and Economy of Tulum, highlighted the immense potential this new airport, often dubbed the “airport of the jungle,” holds for the region's growth, especially in the luxury sector and private aviation.

One of the key features of the airport contributing to this surge in potential is its Fixed Based Operator (FBO) terminal. FBO, as explained by Pérez, comprises a private air terminal for passenger embarkation and disembarkation, along with a range of aeronautical services such as aircraft hangarage, handling, and flight operations. The Tulum FBO terminal not only caters to the needs of private flights but also offers an extensive list of services, including apron parking for various aircraft categories, dispatch services, weather reports, personalized assistance, and concierge services, among others.

With a strategic focus on promoting this high-quality infrastructure on both national and international fronts, Tulum aims to position itself as a premier choice for private flights in the Caribbean. Pérez emphasized the importance of showcasing the FBO terminal at major aviation fairs and leveraging the global private aviation network to maximize its visibility and appeal.

The recent inauguration of the airport on December 1st, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the federal administration, was marked by President López Obrador. The airport, nestled in the heart of the Quintana Roo jungle, not only connects the tourist complex with the stations of the Mayan Train but also opens doors to international collaborations and opportunities.

American Airlines, seizing the moment, announced four direct flights from the United States, commencing March 28, 2024. These flights will connect Tulum with Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dallas Fort-Worth and Miami in Texas, using Boeing 737 aircraft. Additionally, low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is set to operate from Orlando and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airports, offering flights starting at an attractive US$149.

The entrepreneur Carlos Slim, owner of Grupo Carso, chimed in on the ongoing debates about the country's working hours. While addressing the press during the airport inauguration, Slim expressed his belief that it's more beneficial for people to work longer hours and earn more to enhance their purchasing power.

Meanwhile, on the urban development front, the Quintana Roo Strategic Projects Agency (Agepro) is making significant strides in the regularization process of properties in Tulum's invasion zones. José Alberto Alonso Ovando, the director of Agepro, shared that approximately 28 hectares have already been recovered for commercialization. The initiative, marked by flexibility in payment schemes, aims to strike a balance between individual needs and the financial capacity of families.

In the realm of celebrity news, Tulum played host to the secret wedding of actress Vanessa Hudgens and free-agent baseball player Cole Tucker on December 2. The couple chose the idyllic setting of Tulum, Quintana Roo, for their private ceremony, shunning the media to exchange vows in a tranquil and exclusive celebration.

Tulum's trajectory as a hub of luxury, aviation, and cultural allure is firmly on an upward trajectory, promising an exciting future for this vibrant destination on Mexico's Caribbean coast. As the region continues to attract global attention, Tulum stands poised to be a key player in the realms of tourism, aviation, and development.
