What to do in Cancun when it rains?
Are you in Cancun and you got bad weather? Here are some activities you can do in Cancun when it rains.
Cancun is a destination visited year after year, for its spectacular warm weather that allows visitors to enjoy the beaches, sand and sun. However, during the Cancun hurricane season, which starts in June and ends in November, it is very likely to have heavy rains, as well as constant threats of tropical cyclones or hurricanes. For this reason, below is a list of five things to do in Cancun during the rainy season, whether you are a tourist or live in this destination.
Visit Cancun's malls
Cancun has more than ten shopping malls distributed throughout the city and most of them have amenities such as cinemas, restaurants, children's areas, and stores of all kinds. They can be a good option if you don't want to stay at home watching the rain fall. However, Plaza la Isla in the Hotel Zone, Plaza Malecón Américas and Plaza "Outlet" are not fully roofed, so if you visit them take your precautions and bring an umbrella.
Visit Cancun Museums
Another option is to visit Cancun's museums, among which are the Mayan Museum, the Wax Museum and the Interactive Aquarium located in the Hotel Zone.
Enjoy the hotel's amenities
If you are on vacation and you are staying at a hotel in downtown Cancun or the Hotel Zone, take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the amenities available at the hotel. Most have spas, comforting rooms, specialty restaurants, sports bars, children's areas and more.
Movies and games at home
Now, if you are at home and are fortunate enough to have the day off, you can organize a movie or board game marathon. Read a book or recreate a home spa day. This can be a perfect option for when there are kids at home and you don't know how to entertain them on a rainy day.
Visit Cancun's beaches
Believe it or not, in Cancun it is common for people to go to the beach on rainy days, so if you were planning to get wet why not do it in the rain? Walking on the wet sand is also very pleasant. This activity may also depend on how intense the rain is or if there is a thunderstorm forecast.
Remember to follow all the instructions of the lifeguards and respect the signals of the flags, because if there is a red flag you can not go swimming, if it is yellow you can do it but with caution. During the rainy season it is important to follow the instructions and recommendations of the National Meteorological Service and Civil Protection in Cancun.
