First, it was the report of wild black bears in the streets of several municipalities in Nuevo Leon. Now the type of wild animals has changed with the onset of the rains in the state. It is the snakes that appear in the houses.

Recently, neighbors in the Cumbres area reported cases of snakes inside their homes. An 80-year-old man suffered a rattlesnake bite in his house in Colonia Cumbres San Agustin in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

"In the last week, we had five cases and one of them was from Cumbres. He was mentioning that he was moving some furniture in his house and when he saw what he thought was a children's toy, well, he grabbed the snake and it bit him. It was a really small snake, about 35 cm approximately, "said Rodolfo Márquez, physician and professor of the General Surgery Service of the University Hospital.

The older adult who was the victim of a venomous snake attack at his home was treated in the emergency room of this hospital.

"Our patient arrived with us with a degree of envenomation that we consider mild to moderate, which required the administration of antivenom," explained specialist Rodolfo Márquez, physician and professor of the General Surgery Service of the University Hospital. This medical expert gave a preventive recommendation to avoid these frightening encounters with snakes.

Rodolfo Márquez, physician and professor of the General Surgery Service of the University Hospital, commented: "Everything that is garbage should be as far away from the house as possible. In the houses, if it is possible to have mosquito nets on both doors and windows, it would be very important. Also, if they can have an animal such as a dog or cat, it is excellent because they immediately warn when there are these types of animals."

About 25 species of venomous snakes are native to the United States. These venomous snakes include rattlesnakes (rattlesnakes, moccasins, and copperheads) and coral snakes. Animals that inject harmful toxins by biting or stinging are called venomous, while the term toxic refers to exposure to toxins when the animal is ingested.
