In an early morning conference from the National Palace, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) announced groundbreaking developments in Mexico's social welfare initiatives. The key highlights include substantial increases in senior citizen pensions, aid for individuals with disabilities, support for working mothers, and crucial assistance for communities affected by natural disasters.
Record-breaking Pension Increase
Secretary of Welfare Ariadna Montiel revealed that the pension for senior citizens, a constitutional right championed by President López Obrador, has witnessed a significant surge. Currently benefitting 11 million 841 thousand 561 individuals, the annual investment for this initiative is a staggering 339 thousand 341 million pesos. Notably, the pension amount has risen from 1,160 pesos to 4,800 pesos, with further increases to 6,000 pesos bimonthly expected in 2024. This substantial investment is set to reach 1.4 trillion pesos in 2024, marking a historic commitment to the well-being of Mexico's elderly population.
