There are dozens of volcanoes and water mirrors to be found at Lagunas Encantadas in the state of Nayarit in Mexico. This is a wonderful example of how nature can create the perfect mix. This region is located in the center of the state of Nayarit and has volcanic craters that time has turned into beautiful lagoons. It has small boutique hotels with the best services. The lagoons are the ideal place for any type of water sport, including sport fishing.

San Pedro Lagunillas

San Pedro Lagoon is an excellent location for sport fishing due to its abundance of tilapia and largemouth bass. On the shores of the lagoon, several restaurants offer fresh fish prepared in various ways. The area is ideal for mountain biking, camping, and canoeing. In the town, you can buy exquisite homemade cheeses next to the Municipal Presidency and visit the Church of the Apostle San Pedro, the Community Museum, the Garden of the Terebintos, or the Plaza de los Mártires (Martyrs' Square).

Lagunas Encantadas is in a volcano's crater, which turned into a beautiful lagoon over time.

Santa María del Oro

Its sulfurous waters, with an average temperature of 25ºC (77°F), are used for swimming, boating, and fishing. A few minutes before reaching the lagoon, you will find the town of the same name, where you can visit the Church of the Lord of the Ascension.

On the shore of the lagoon, there are several luxurious boutique hotels as well as restaurants that offer typical dishes of the region such as fish chicharrones, cuachala (shredded chicken or pork in a tomato, chili, and corn broth), and capirotada al horno (toasted bread with pieces of banana, raisins, nuts, and peanuts covered with piloncillo syrup and cheese).

At the lagoon, you can enjoy all the water sports, such as kayaking, skiing, skateboarding, etc. Its rugged environment is ideal for mountain biking, hiking, and bird watching. In the town of Real de Acuitapilco, there is a recreational center with luxury cabins among waterfalls, springs, and the ruins of an old hacienda.
