National fencing selection Denisse Alely Hernández Martínez is focused on the Pan American Pre-Olympic Fencing Tournament to be held on April 6 and 7 in San José, Costa Rica, a competition that grants a direct ticket to Paris 2024 only to gold medalists.

“I dream of Paris 2024, it is the biggest dream since I started fencing,” highlighted Hernandez. “It has been quite a long preparation for an event like the pre-Olympic, three constant years traveling, competing, doing international camps and now the date is here, with this preparation I am very well-supported,” she added.

The fencer from the state of Jalisco also shared the balance and expectations she has towards the continental Olympic qualifier. “I hope to enjoy it because it is an event that I have been looking for a long time and now that I have it at the door I am very happy to participate, I want to be bout after bout, feel present in the event and hope for the best.”

In the women's foil category, 14 fencers will participate and on April 6, the Mexican will be in action, facing great exponents of her weapon. “Some rivals to beat are Brazil's Mariana Pistoia and Yasmin Campbell from Jamaica; however, I think we are all very even in terms of competitive level”.

The champion of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, together with the team formed by Melissa Rebolledo, Nataly Michel and Victoria Meza, has been training since March 18 at the facilities of the National Center for the Development of Sports Talents and High Performance (CNAR).

The bronze medalist with her team at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, said that she is fully focused on this upcoming commitment. “My goal is clear, and I am focused on this weekend's event,” she said.
