The Pumas player, Dani Alves, has been arrested by Mossos d'Esquadra for an alleged sexual assault on a woman in a nightclub in Barcelona on the night of December 30-31, 2022, and has been taken to court to testify as investigated.

Details of the Incident

In her complaint, the woman claims that the Brazilian footballer touched her without her consent, at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona where they coincided at a party. Accompanied by her friends, the woman reported the incident to the club's security personnel, who activated the relevant protocol in these cases and alerted the Catalan police. Mossos d'Esquadra agents went to the scene and took statements from the woman, who made a formal complaint of sexual assault on January 2.

Prosecution's Request

The Prosecutor's Office has requested this Friday the remand in custody without bail of the former Barcelona player, Dani Alves, for sexual assault. Following the request of the prosecution, which has joined the private prosecution, exercised by the complainant, the examining magistrate must decide whether to order the arrest of the footballer, who has been arrested after arriving from Mexico.

Court Proceeding

After testifying at the police station, the Mossos d'Esquadra took Alves to the court in a patrol car, not the one that usually takes the detainees to the City of Justice, so he did not have to share the car with other arrestees. Subsequently, he appeared before the examining magistrate in a common statement room, outside the area of the duty courts.

Pumas and Liga MX's Response

So far, Pumas has not yet stated the situation of its player. After the arrest of Dani Alves in Barcelona after being accused of sexual assault was made public, Liga BBVA MX issued a statement stating that they will be keeping an eye on the Pumas player.

Dani Alves' Participation in the league

So far, Pumas has not yet issued a statement regarding the case of its player, who will not be present on Matchday 3 of the championship, when the team coached by Rafael Puente will face León at the University Olympic Stadium.
