The Mexican National Team will compete in the World Cup without Gerardo Martino. The Argentine coach, who has been in command of the national team since 2019, is coming closer to Qatar 2022, a championship that begins on November 20 and in which Mexico will compete in the Group Stage against Poland, Argentina, and Saudi Arabia.

Gerardo Martino, also known as "Tata" has played for clubs such as Almirante Brown in Argentina's Second Division, Platense in the First Division, Instituto (2nd), Libertad of Paraguay, Cerro Porteo, Colón, Newells Old Boys, Barcelona, and Atlanta United during his coaching career.

Gerardo Martino was named coach of the Aztec National Franchise after his contract with the Major League Soccer team expired. However, this is not his first coaching assignment; he previously worked with the Paraguayan National Team, with whom he competed in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. "Tata" and the Guarani squad were eliminated in the quarterfinals against Spain by the smallest of margins at the time. La Albirraja won Group F, which they shared with Slovakia, New Zealand, and Italy, with 5 points.

After Argentina finished second to Germany in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Alejandro Sabella stepped down as coach of the Albiceleste, and Gerardo Martino took over. The coach had agreed to a contract extension till 2018. Despite having a solid record, Martino resigned after losing two consecutive Copa América finals to Chile in 2015 and 2016.

"Tata" has coached the Mexican National Team for 59 matches since taking over as coach. With 116 goals scored in his favor and 55 against, the Argentine coach has a record of 39 wins, 11 draws, and 9 defeats. Despite having a positive balance, Martino's tenure has not been without challenges. The coach has experienced three defeats against the US, two of which came in the finals of the CONCACAF Nations League and the Gold Cup 2021.
