In the port of Acapulco, health authorities confirmed the first case of chikungunya in the state of Guerrero. The last cases of chikungunya were detected in 2017, and during 2018, 2019, and 2020, there was no record of contagions.

"A case of chikungunya was already studied, detected, and confirmed in Renacimiento, in Ciudad Renacimiento," said Eduardo Diego Balderrama, head of the Health Jurisdiction 07 of Acapulco. Acapulco's Health Jurisdiction 07 treated the patient and implemented a sanitary fence around the place where the contagion was detected to avoid new cases.

"The antivectorial actions were carried out as required by the regulations, the sanitary fence was made, we have already worked with antivectorial actions that correspond to fumigation, control and health promotion in several blocks around the case presented", said Eduardo Diego Balderrama, head of the Sanitary Jurisdiction 07 of Acapulco.

To avoid an increase in cases of diseases transmitted by the mosquito vector during the rainy season, fumigation and control actions are also intensified in neighborhoods, gardens, and public squares. In addition, the brigades raise awareness among citizens to avoid the accumulation of garbage that can serve as breeding places for the mosquito that transmits dengue, zika, and chikungunya.

"That is why the call to the population to collaborate, here the task is not only of the government to carry out these actions but also of the population to help us to prevent the generation of breeding places for these mosquitoes," said Iran Pierre Trani Astudillo, director of Public Health of Acapulco. Currently, there are 219 confirmed cases of dengue fever and more than a thousand suspected cases in the port of Acapulco.
