This Sunday the search and rescue of the man who accidentally fell into the Cenote Azul, located in Cancun's Supermanzana 225, ended without success. Independent speleologists from Merida, Yucatan, as well as from the Quintana Roo municipalities of Benito Juarez and Solidaridad, were the last to join the search without positive results.

Around 1:00 p.m. yesterday, the specialized divers arrived at the cenote to begin the search for Mr. Onésimo, who disappeared last Tuesday after accidentally falling into the well, but after several hours of hard work, they informed the man's family that the work was finished.

The divers mentioned that the blue cenote may have a bottom, but they only reached a limited depth as any expert has, in this case, they went down to a depth of 50 to 60 meters, then they threw a line with a lamp with a distance of approximately 100 meters.

In view of this situation, the closure of Cenote Azul was recommended to avoid another human loss, since it is not monitored and the depth could exceed 100 meters.

According to the authorities, the search efforts were suspended for two reasons: the first is that the surface of the cenote is contaminated, and the second is because a body cannot reach such a depth, much less in the conditions of methane gas that the place spews due to the contamination that exists in that area.

For three days, rescuers from the Mexican Red Cross, Firefighters, and Civil Protection were engaged in the search for the subject, they went down to a depth of 50 meters, but were unable to locate the body. The search was suspended on Friday afternoon, but this Sunday specialized divers arrived to look for the body but were unsuccessful.
