The body of a man was found with marks of violence and with his hands tied in the Villas Otoch Paraiso subdivision of Cancun, in Region 259. According to the preliminary report, the discovery occurred just a few meters from the Sentimientos de la Nación elementary school, around 05:30 hours. The educational authorities decided to suspend classes due to the work of the forensic services in the area.

People and motorists passing by on Margaritas Street noticed the presence of the body, as it was lying in the middle of the street. Authorities presume that the man had been killed on the spot before being abandoned, since at least two spent shell casings were found in the street.

The victim had bullet impacts, as well as signs of torture. The subdivision where the discovery occurred is one of the areas with the highest crime rates in Cancun. According to the Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo, this is the 19th murder so far this March in this tourist destination.

Police from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard, and the Quintana Roo police were on the scene and cordoned off the street in both directions.
