WOMAD is an international festival that by its acronym in English World of Music, Arts & Dance, exposes different musical genres, dance and arts in general. This festival has already been in more than 30 different countries, and now it is the turn of Morelia to be the house that receives this great experience.

The creator of this festival is Peter Gabriel, also known for being part of the British progressive rock band Genesis; The singer-songwriter declared on the festival's official website:

"The pure enthusiasm for music from all over the world led us to the concept of WOMAD in 1980 and thence to the first WOMAD festival in 1982."

The WOMAD festival began in 1982 but it is from 1988 onwards that it takes an international identity with weekend performances in Denmark and Canada; from this, the world image of the festival has grown, including presentations in Australia, USA, Japan, Spain and other European countries.

The philosophy that surrounds the WOMAD festival has taken them to distant and heterogeneous countries, from New Zealand to South Africa.

Morelia will have the opportunity to receive a festival known for its cultural diversity in the year 2020; the British singer-songwriter posted on his Twitter:

"We are very excited that the city of Morelia joins the WOMAD family! Mexico's first WOMAD will take place in the summer of 2020 and will bring the best of music, art and culture to Mexico and take Mexican culture to the world! "
