Why Mahahual is a perfect destination for international tourism and cruises

The Gran Costa Maya, with its main attraction, its 45 kilometers of beaches, surrounded by archaeological zones and Mayan communities, has become the emerging destination for international tourism and cruises in Quintana Roo, according to the Expedia travel portal.

According to data from the World Tourism Organization, published on the World Economic Forum, Mexico is the ninth largest tourism power in the world and leader of this industry in Latin America, with Quintana Roo leading this leadership with its natural attractions such as beaches, cenotes and jungles; and its archaeological and gastronomic riches.

The main destinations of the entity, among which Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, the Mayan Riviera, and Mahahual stand out, together had a growth of 6.2 percent at the end of the year season, from December 20, 2018 on January 6, 2019, the result of the promotion promoted by Governor Carlos Joaquín to consolidate Quintana Roo as a regional tourist power.

Carlos Joaquín works to strengthen tourism leadership and advance in the generation of more jobs, better paid, to help reduce inequality between the north and the south and thus generate more and better opportunities for people to live better.

According to the Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur), headed by Marisol Vanegas Pérez, in the year-end season, Mahahual registered 9,960 occupied quarter-nights and 9,056 tourists, representing a growth of 6.2 percent in the number of tourists regarding the same season in the year of 2017.

Regarding cruises, Mahahual went from 280 arrivals in 2017 to 331 in 2018, which represents a variation of 4.1 percent. In passengers, it increased from 881 thousand 608 to one million 072 thousand 598 on the dates mentioned. This growth in cruise tourism reflects the results of the promotion that Governor Carlos Joaquín promotes to diversify activities and offer varied products so as not to depend only on holiday seasons.

According to the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), in this first long weekend of 2019 Cancun and Quintana Roo would receive more than one million 100 thousand visitors, mainly nationals, who could generate an economic income of more than two thousand 300 million pesos.
