Oaxaca: Whale Watching Season Begins in Mexico

According to experts, the season in which whales can be seen on Oaxaca's beaches is from December to March and it is predicted that there will be around 300 mammals.

This week the Secretary of Tourism of Oaxaca (SECTUR), Juan Carlos Rivera, officially inaugurated the whale watching season for the humpback species in Puerto Escondido. The Oaxacan coast was visited by local, national, and international tourists who, after the invitation made by the Secretary of SECTUR, arrived to admire the passage of the whales.

"Friends from all over Mexico, come to Puerto Escondido to enjoy, here we can see a humpback whale; come to the Oaxacan coast," invited through a video on social networks the Secretary of Tourism, Juan Carlos Rivera Castellanos. State and municipal authorities were also present and took a tour of the beach of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca.

According to experts, the season in which whales can be seen on Oaxaca's beaches is from December to March and it is predicted that there will be around 300 mammals. In addition, the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) specifies that this event can be observed until March 31, 2020.

On the other hand, it was indicated that the best months to appreciate large cetaceans are January and February in Puerto Angel-Mazunte, Santa Maria Tonameca, and San Pedro Pochutla. Likewise, in Puerto Escondido, Bahía Principal and Bahía de Puerto Angelito, in San Pedro Mixtepec, and Santa María Colotepec. Humpback whale watching will be available from December 15, 2019, to March 21, 2020.
