So far this year, Tijuana International Airport has positioned itself as the second most important domestic airport in Mexico, ahead of Cancun, Guadalajara and Monterrey, according to data from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT).

Between January and August 2021, Tijuana's airport has received six million 119 thousand passengers, while Cancun, which ranks third, has registered five million 814 thousand passengers. Mexico City International Airport is in first position with 15 million 865 thousand passengers.

In recent years, the Tijuana airport has had an increase in the number of passengers and air operations, due to the inauguration of the Cross Border Xpress border crossing, which allows direct connection with San Diego, in the United States.

However, according to the SCT, Tijuana is not among the top ten international airports in the country. In this segment, Cancun currently leads with 8,129,000 passengers, followed by Mexico City International Airport with 5,903,000 passengers. Next are Guadalajara, San José del Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Monterrey, Bajío, Morelia, Cozumel and Querétaro.

Finally, in terms of domestic cargo, 250 thousand tons have been transported so far this year in all of the country's airports. In the international segment, the entry of 483,294 tons has been consolidated. In both segments, Mexico City and Guadalajara airports lead the way, according to SCT figures.
