These are the 9 states that account for 62 percent of homicides in Mexico
The year 2018 left figures that we do not want to overcome anymore. The precedents of violence should go down, however, it seems that the goal is to go up annually. Homicides seem so frequent that we get used to them, more in some areas than in others.
The Semáforo Delictivo announced that in 2018, only 9 states accounted for 62 percent of homicides in the country. In 9 states they breathe more blood than in others, but in the end, violence, death, is always present.
According to information provided by Santiago Roel, director of Semáforo Delictivo, the nine states that accumulate this percentage of homicides in our country are: Baja California, Guanajuato, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Jalisco, Chihuahua, Veracruz, Michoacán and CDMX.
The 62 percent was distributed with 10 percent for Baja California, 9 percent for Guanajuato, 8 percent for Guerrero and the State of Mexico, 7 percent for Jalisco, 6 percent for Chihuahua, 5 percent for Veracruz and Michoacán and 4 percent for Mexico City.
Roel said at a press conference that "the executions of organized crime that have to do with the black market of drugs" are the main reasons why we are so bad at homicides.
He added that "the insecurity in Mexico is not caused fundamentally more than by this issue, by a mistaken drug policy that the Government itself has promoted, it is not poverty, it is not inequality".
In reference to whether the National Guard will reduce this percentage, Roel said that "militarized or not militarized, will not fight the executions, because if that were all the Army presence we have had since 2008 and would have given results."
