A festival for the best tobacco in the world
The XXII edition of the Habano Festival will take place from 24 to 28 February next year, a traditional annual competition that brings together lovers of the best tobacco in the world: the Habano.
During the event, the main novelties of the year will be presented, in addition to maintaining their usual activities.
The International Habanos World Challenge Competition is also planned, referring to the knowledge of this genuine export product from the Island and which is celebrating its third edition.
Precisely this year the company Habanos s.a., main sponsor of the event, celebrates 25 years of foundation with important achievements, in spite of the arbitrary economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. Government against the Greater Antilles, which prevents the sale of Cuban tobacco in the neighboring country.
World leader in the commercialization of Premium cigars (totally handmade), both in Cuba and in the world market, this company has an exclusive distribution network present in more than 160 countries of the five continents.
This company, National Vanguard in union emulation, grew by 7% in 2018 compared to the previous year. It has a market share of 70 % in terms of units and 80 % in terms of values, excluding the USA.
According to sources of the Tabacuba Business Group, to which Habanos s.a. belongs, the Cuban tobacco branch achieved last year income for the country of 250 million dollars, while the proposal for 2019 is to enter more than 270 million.
With 27 prestigious brands of cigars and more than 320 assortments, Habano, as Cuban tobacco is generically known, enjoys excellent health and prospects for expansion in the world market, agreed to point out Granma Inocente Núñez Blanco and Luis Sánchez-Harguindey Pardo de Vera, co-presidents of Habanos S.A.

Why are Habanos the best cigars in the world?
In Cuba, the best cigars in the world are still made by hand. Everyone calls them Habanos. Why are they so special?
The layers of these cigars, unlike those produced in other regions of the planet, have a sweet taste and are characterized by higher sugar content and lower proportion of nicotine, which complements very well with the flavor and aroma of the rest of the material used in its conception.
Habano cigar tastes like tobacco, as no specific flavoring is used in its production. It may be soft, penetrating, strong or discreet, depending on the proportion and type of tobacco with which it has been made, but its excellence is unquestionable.
Habanos is the denomination of origin reserved for the selection of the most prominent brands whose cigars are made following the most rigorous rules and using the leaves harvested in areas of the island called Las Vegas Finas de Primera, a group of lands that, due to their natural characteristics and the style of cultivation of those who inhabit them, are destined to the production of the leaves with which Habanos will be made.
All Habanos are Cuban but not all cigars made in Cuba are Habanos.
In the distant year of 1492 to the arrival of Admiral Christopher Columbus to the island of Cuba it was received by aborigines that carried leaves rolled in the lips, which lit by an end and adsorbed the smoke by the other end.
Columbus uncovered one of the greatest riches of Cuba and even several of his companions were fond of consuming the aromatic leaf, with which the word tobacco was incorporated into the language of the inhabitants of the old continent.
The tobacco grower, with his special talent, guarantees its quality from the plantations, beginning a process that will culminate in the tobacco factory. It is cultivated all over the island and the best lands for the activity are located in Vuelta Abajo, Pinar del Río, being considered its product as the best tobacco in the world.
Its cultivation consists of several stages, preparing the soil by labeling them so that they are light and with the necessary humidity. The seed will be of the best reserve. The culture that will be given to the land will keep it free of weeds and will prevent the deterioration of the leaves. Irrigation will be applied and will protect from the sun and excessive rain.
The harvest will be done with great care, at this stage depends on the effort of the tobacco grower that the tobacco becomes in the hands of the twister in an aromatic and competitive product.
One of the glories of Habanos is a wide choice: 33 brands with 204 labels. Each brand has its own style of flavor, but in turn, different labels can provide different flavors. Generally speaking, the thicker the cigar, the more flavor it will provide and the fresher the smoke will be.
The thicker cigars burn more slowly and produce a greater amount of smoke, with a great intensity of aromas and flavors, The Double Figures offer a peculiar flavor at first, dominated by the flavor of the layered leaf and the cape. The true flavor is revealed when you reach the wide part of the cigar. The finer cigars are smoked more quickly and concentrate the flavors on the tongue, providing a sharper flavor.
