Avocado, this popular Mexican food item has surpassed the kitchen and now comes in the form of a tennis sneaker thanks to the Saucony brand, whose model evokes toasted guacamole.

The Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico reported in early 2019 that the Mexican avocado is one of the most successful products of national agro-food export. The national production of avocado as of January 2019 was 205,440 tons, 11.8% higher than that harvested in the same month of the previous year.

In the most important sporting event in the United States, the Super Bowl, Mexican avocados had their television commercial in which a group of people recreated a classic pedigree dog contest where they had to show why they were worth eating the well-known Mexican fruit known as green gold.

Now the avocado reaches the world of fashion. The Saucony brand launches one of its iconic silhouettes: SHADOW 6000 AVOCADO TOAST, a tennis shoe with the name of SUACAMOLE.

These tennis sneakers fuse two colors in a suede upper and layered leather to two shades of green that evoke the texture of this food, as well as the integration of the brown color to represent a slice of toast, we can find the lining with details In red mesh they represent spicy chili flakes.

Gabriela Muñoz, director of brand marketing, talks about how the idea came about to create them.

"Avocado today is one of the main export products in Mexico, with the United States being one of the largest consumers of this product. Recently we saw the phenomenon that was created in the Super Bowl where guacamole is the most consumed food and it is from this fascination for the consumption of avocado or guacamole that the idea for this collaboration arises. It is important to mention that Saucony has been taking food for several years as a reference of inspiration, some examples of their collaborations are: Burger, Dirty Martini, Bacon & Eggs and Shrimp Scampi".

Celebrities like Jimmy Fallon have not hesitated to show that they are fans of this very Mexican tennis shoe. In his Instagram account, he uploaded a photo in which he asks which one should eat first, referring to tennis or some bread with guacamole.

For whom are these sneakers created

"Mainly for the sneakerheads who are always looking for collaborations or tennis with inspirations that give them exclusivity, however we know that in recent years the culture of sneaker has had an important growth while the culture of the kitchen has been refined and always has to talk, people like to eat well, meet new dishes, be fashionable and reflect their personality, in neighborhoods of Mexico City such as Rome and the Countess where you find some of the best restaurants in the world as well as important sneaker boutiques. That's why when we have tennis that unites both categories we do not want to be pigeon-holed, "says Gabriela Muñoz.
