Update: From Yucatan, a global message of peace will be sent through the World Summit of the Nobel Peace Laureates, to be held from September 19 to 22, an event that will project the entity throughout the world and in which progress is already being made. in the preparations with a view to receiving people from the five continents.
Preparations for the Nobel summit in Mérida
Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal held a working meeting with Sandra García Giraldo, director for Latin America of Nobel Peace Prizes, and her team of collaborators, with whom she began to prepare the organization of the annual event, which in each edition brings together between 15 and 30 personalities that have received this award.
It should be remembered that after a strong competition the state of Yucatan was the seat of this important event in its 2019 edition, specifically the city of Mérida, so it joins a select group of cities such as Barcelona, Spain; Warsaw, Poland; Hiroshima, Japan; Paris France; Berlin Germany; Chicago, United States; Rome, Italy, and Bogotá, in Colombia, that have hosted this meeting.
Nobel Peace Prize Laureates and Nobel Peace Laureates, such as presidents Mikhail Gorbachev of Russia, have come to the summit; Óscar Arias Sánchez, from Costa Rica; Lech Walesa, from Poland; Jimmy Carter, from the United States; José Ramos-Horta, from East Timor; Kim Dae Jung, from South Korea; and Juan Manuel Santos, from Colombia. Also, his holiness the Dalai Lama, Dr Shirin Ebadi, Lord David Trimble, Professor John Hume and other world-renowned leaders.
Activities at Nobel Summit in Merida
Within the framework of this meeting in the Yucatan capital, plenary sessions and a series of activities will be developed, such as dialogues, thematic forums, fairs, cultural events, among others, which will involve the participation of visitors, young people and people of the entity, the country and the world, with only one purpose, to spread the message of peace.
Accompanied by Federico Treviño Villarreal and Ricardo Mier, general and customer service directors, respectively, of the Public Trust for the Development of Tourism Meetings in Yucatan, Vila Dosal stressed that this summit will serve as a platform to project the world to Yucatán not only as a cultural and tourist destination but also for being a safe state and with quality of life.
In that sense, Sandra Garcia Giraldo stressed that the climate of peace and harmony that exists in this entity in the Mexican southeast was one of the determining factors for the decision to make the world meeting here, to send from the safest state in Mexico a message of peace for everyone, according to a statement.

During those days, Yucatan, especially Mérida, will confirm that it is a safe destination that makes them have a peaceful life, said Sandra García Giraldo, director for Latin America of Nobel Peace Prizes, in the presence of Rafael Hernández and Linda Garzón Rocha, president and executive director, in that order, of the World Forum of Meetings, as well as Raúl Paz Noriega, director of the Planning, Evaluation and Follow-up Unit of the Secretariat of Tourism Development (Sefotur).
It will be the first time in history that Mexico will host this important congress of nobels of peace and the Yucatan capital was selected for its positive characteristics as the headquarters of this unprecedented world event.
Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal confirmed that the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates will be held from September 19 to 22 in Mérida, with the International Congress Center as its main venue.
When the reporter asked the governor after signing the agreement with the Business Coordinating Council, held in the same premises of the CIC, he said: "the official announcement will be made next week."
"Yes it's true," he replied. "The Congress of the Nobel prizes is one of the most important in the world. It is a very specialized sector, they are people of a very important professional level. We entered a call when we found out that they were looking for a venue for the 2019 event. We made several visits, many visits. I spoke twice with the organizers, the Secretary of Tourism had another six or seven meetings. "
"It is a very important achievement because we compete with many cities in the world and others in Mexico," he explained. "We are very happy that this meeting has materialized."
The president said that because of its characteristics and its importance it is not a massive event with many participants, but rather it is of a high level due to the personalities that come.
"I think those are the types of events that put Yucatan on another level, at the level that the Yucatecans want and want. It is an event that puts us in the eyes of the world, "he said.
"It's definitely a very good showcase for people who have a very broad level of influence in the sectors where they move. The Nobel and the participants will not only come to Congress, but they will also visit and know Yucatan. They are going to stay more days and that is a very important projection for the state ".

To choose Mérida, they valued the climate of peace and tranquility prevailing in the city and the entity, the hotel infrastructure, the gastronomic services, and public safety. Some representatives of the guests and attendees showed interest in the premium hacienda properties.
In addition to the Nobel Peace Laureates who attend this summit, the organizers also invite famous Hollywood actors who promote pacification, combat poverty and care for the environment, such as the Maddox Foundation directed by the American actor Brad Pitt or other similar organisms.
