Riviera Maya, refuge for foreigners fleeing the winter

Half of the tourists that visit the Riviera Maya come from the United States and Canada according to the Association of Hotels of the Riviera Maya (AHRM).

The president of the AHRM, Manuel Paredes Mendoza, indicated that the main segment of the market is the American, who added to the Canadians, represent 50 percent of the totality of the visitors, while the European market occupies the second place highlighting the arrival of English, followed by the Spanish and the third place is occupied by the national market, which represents 20 percent of visitors.

He also predicted that hotel occupancy will remain at 80 to 85 percent averages during this winter season.

"Let us remember that winter is our best season due to the arrival of foreign tourists, we know that when it is very cold, our countries of origin, such as Canada and the United States, represent 80 percent of our visitors at this time," he said.

On the other hand, on the expectations for the month of April, when the 'spring break' and the Easter holidays coincide, Paredes Mendoza explained that with school holidays the arrival of foreign and national families is expected since 60 percent of the Riviera Maya packages are familiar.
