President of the Government of Spain will arrive in Mexico tomorrow
The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, will make an official visit to Mexico tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE). It will be the first official visit of a foreign president in the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and will take place two months after the trip of King Felipe VI to attend the ceremony of transmission of the Executive Power, on December 1, detailed the Foreign Ministry in a statement.
The Spanish president will be accompanied by the Spanish justice ministers, Dolores Delgado, and Industry, Commerce and Tourism, María Reyes Maroto; as well as an important high-level business delegation. According to the federal agency, "this first presidential meeting shows the depth and special nature of the bilateral ties, as well as the political will of both leaders to project their coincidences in the political, economic, and cultural promotion fields. Hispanic American and cooperation with Central America towards new levels of collaboration and understanding ".
During his stay in Mexico, President Sánchez Pérez-Castrejón will meet at the National Palace with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to examine the development of bilateral relations, exchange views on global issues of common interest and outline joint actions for this new phase of the bilateral relationship.
This year, the SRE reported, the 80th anniversary of the Spanish exile in Mexico is commemorated, a fact of profound historical and human significance that both countries recognize and value as an intimate part of their history. In this context, on Wednesday afternoon, the president of Spain will give a keynote address entitled "Mexico, host country: 80 years of Spanish Republican exile," at El Colegio de Mexico and later, will visit the headquarters of the Spanish Athenaeum of Mexico .
On Thursday, January 31, President Sanchez will deposit an offering in the Altar to the Fatherland and will meet with the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, who will name him a Distinguished Guest. That same day he will meet with businessmen and with the Spanish community in the country.
The Foreign Ministry stressed that Spain is the seventh commercial partner of Mexico in the world and the second among the nations of the European Union. It is also the second largest investor in the country and the first among the member states of the European Union.
