The largest exhibition of the plastics industry in Latin America is preparing for its 2019 edition. This year the event will bring together 870 companies representing more than 1,600 brands.

José Navarro Meneses, general director of EJ Krause, explained that PLASTIMAGEN Mexico offers a unique opportunity for business executives and owners of transforming companies, as well as executives of consumer companies of plastic products, who seek to know and acquire the latest in machinery, technology, and materials related to the plastics industry, a very dynamic sector in the region.

"The growth of the industry, in the last two years (in Mexico), was 7% and 6% respectively, higher than the average growth that the country had," says the executive who believes that attendees can find in PLASTIMAGEN The latest technology in machinery, peripheral equipment, materials and services related to the plastics industry. Navarro Meneses, however, is clear that the sector faces challenges, such as an increasing ban on plastic products in the single-use category.

"If we talk about Mexico, the plastic industry is divided into two", says the CEO of EJKraus, "on the one hand, the strong impact of prohibiting, in several states, the so-called 'single-use plastics' and the little information there is regarding recycling these products, mainly bags, and straws, "he explains.

However, the industry generates other important contributions that impact other industries thanks to the innovation generated by this type of materials. "In 2017, the production (of the plastics industry) increased by almost 7% and had an annual growth of more than 6% by 2018," says Navarro Meneses, who emphasizes that there is increasing use of plastic, as raw material.

"The ban of bags and straws did not stop the industry that has been growing, on a regular basis, in the last 7 years (...) The automotive industry, with the arrival of new investors and the opening of new plants, is what more has been benefited by the good plastic products that are manufactured in the country, "he explained.

He details that thanks to the advances it has been possible to improve the competitiveness of many companies through the option of replacing pieces of traditional manufacture by plastic elements in industries such as automotive, medical devices, construction, packaging, agricultural and household appliances, among others.

Only in Mexico, the sector is an appetizing market for producers. The country imports the US $ 20,000 million in resins and plastics per year and is among the main countries exporting products together with the United States and Canada.
