New Law of the Attorney General's Office approved: these are its key points
On Wednesday, the Senate approved in general and in particular the new Law of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR), which contemplates, among other things, the presentation of a Strategic Plan for the Prosecution of Justice every three years. These are the key points of the new Law of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic:
It establishes a sanction scheme for those who leak documents or initiate unsubstantiated investigation files.
It eliminates the claim that it should no longer participate in the commissions that investigate the disappearance of persons and other crimes related to human rights violations.
It will have the power to submit to Congress its position on initiatives for constitutional and legal reforms related to the scope of its competence.
Establishes the creation of a gender unit within the Attorney General's Office.
The Attorney General of the Republic will be obliged to appear before both chambers of Congress and will be appointed for nine years. His resignation from the position will only proceed for serious causes.
The reform of the new Law of the Attorney General's Office was approved in general with 118 votes in favor, one against, and in particular with 114 votes in favor and one against. The bill was passed to the Chamber of Deputies for its parliamentary procedure.
