In the road, rural or urban displacements, it is possible to find road controls, usually from the Army. It is recommended that Spanish citizens provide maximum cooperation to the authorities of the checkpoint, answering all the questions asked and clearly stating their status as Spanish citizens. Unfortunately, roadblocks may also be found on criminal roads, particularly in the north of the country. In such circumstances, we must act with great prudence, not flee or accelerate and stop if you are required to do so. The chances of continuing on the unscathed path are greater when showing cooperation.

Taking into account that the security situation is constantly evolving, the areas of special danger in which, for the moment, it is recommended to postpone visits that are not essential, are the following:

High-risk areas:

The rural areas of the States of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, Sinaloa, Sonora, and Nuevo León. The Barranca del Cobre, located between Chihuahua and Sinaloa, can be visited, but it is convenient to stick to the tourist route.

Ciudad Juárez and its surrounding area (Chihuahua). The visit to the city is not recommended. When it is necessary to travel there, it is convenient to stay in El Paso (United States) and cross the border as many times as necessary.

The State of Tamaulipas

The municipalities of Monclova, Piedras Negras and Ciudad Acuña (Coahuila).

The lagoon municipalities of Torreón (Coahuila), Gómez Palacio and Ciudad Lerdo (Durango).

The municipalities surrounding Monterrey (Nuevo León) of Santiago, Juárez, Cadereyta, Salinas Victoria, Escobedo, Apodaca, San Nicolás de los Garza, Guadalupe, Santa Catarina, and García. In Acapulco, organized crime has led to violent incidents perpetrated against Spanish tourists, which are added to those perpetrated against Mexicans. Avoid this destination if it is not for professional reasons and extreme, in the latter case, prudence.

In all these areas, for any displacement outside the urban centers or with the greatest number of tourists, the appropriate guidance should always be requested or, where appropriate, authorization from the competent authorities, and night travel should be avoided, in any case.
