Mexico is among favorite destinations for meetings tourism
The country has positioned itself as a favorite destination for trips within the category of Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE, for its acronym in English), after it attracted 2.7 million tourists for it in 2016 and 2017, which It is equivalent to 44 percent of the total market share.
The above according to data from the MICE Travel Report study, which noted that in those years were made to Latin America 6.1 million trips within that category, which means 8.0 percent of all trips made to the region.
The study also shows that with 2.9 million trips, which represents 50 percent of the market share, the United States is the largest travel issuer for Latin America, followed by Argentina with 515 thousand, Brazil with 327 thousand and Mexico with 230 thousand.
For Mexico, the meetings industry is very promising, said the document, since it is currently in constant growth and generates an economic output of 24.9 billion dollars, equivalent to 1.5 percent of the national GDP.
David Hidalgo, director of IBTM Americas, the company that conducted the study, said that "in the country we have everything to follow among the favorite destinations to carry out events, we have good air and land connectivity, hotel infrastructure, restaurant, large capacity enclosures and of course tourist attractions that complement all this ".
"Even with the political changes that have been presented, we can aspire to the first places worldwide in terms of the meetings industry, if the industry is organized and adapts to change," he said.
Likewise, he assured that with the purpose of growing that sector in Mexico and being the bridge that connects North America and Latin America in the meetings industry, the IBTM Americas event was created, which aims to offer a space for professionals, suppliers and leaders of the sector have the facility to establish new businesses nationally and internationally.
The event, which will also allow updating knowledge about new trends in the field, will take place on May 29 and 30 at the Citibanamex Center.
