Mexico City hosted the arrival of 13.9 million tourists lodged in hotels during 2018, said Carlos Mackinlay, secretary of tourism of the capital, on Friday.
Of the tourists received, around 450 thousand stayed on the Airbnb online hosting platform, Mackinlay told a press conference.
"You can identify (tourists) because Airbnb pays 3 percent on occupancy. That allows us to have a certain identification, "said the head of the Sectur CDMX.
He added that in the capital there are 10 thousand 600 spaces of Airbnb to be rented and indicated that the average stay of those who stay in this 'alternative means' is 5.2 days.
On the other hand, Mackinlay said that during its management the main goal of tourism will be the generation of employment for young people.
"We are going to continue the main goal of creating employment for young people. And if that supports the arrival of more tourists and the economic spill, that will benefit us, "he said.
Cultural tourism and meetings, he said, will be the most exposed due to the conditions of Mexico City, the entity with the largest number of museums in the world, just below London.
Mackinlay committed to implementing the tourism satellite account of the CDMX to improve the statistical information of the sector and to have reliable and updated data.
