The Ministry of Economy (SE) said that the import and export of cannabis is still prohibited in the country, so that the manufacture of products with marijuana can not be made in Mexico until the Law on General Taxes on Importation and Exportation is modified .

Recently, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) released 38 products based on cannabis, which do not exceed 1% of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - active substance of the plant -: however, the Foreign Trade Commission of The SE noted that it has not received any request to review the issue.

In accordance with articles 7 and 20 of the Foreign Trade Law, "The framework of non-tariff regulation and restriction measures for the export or import of merchandise must be previously submitted to the commission's opinion and published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) ".

"As long as the adjustments are made the current regulation remains in force according to which the mentioned fractions CAN NOT BE IMPORTED for any purpose, unless the Judicial Branch of the Federation has indicated this by means of a corresponding resolution," the statement signed by Juan Díaz Mazadiego, General Director of Foreign Trade.

As Publimetro published in last Sunday's edition, the purchase of cannabis comes mainly from the United States and Canada, since currently in the country it is not legal to grow the plant.
