Mexico, among the most dangerous tourist destinations in the world by 2019
The International SOS company, specializing in travel medical insurance, has published a map prepared together with the British company Control Risks - which specifies which are the most dangerous tourist destinations by 2019. Mexico is among the top ten.
The established scale divides the risk levels of the countries into four categories: extreme, high, medium and low. According to International SOS, a country with extreme risk is one in which government control and the Law may be minimal or non-existent in large areas of its territory - which are usually inaccessible to foreigners.
Likewise, the International SOS company includes in this list those nations in which government and transportation services barely function and there is a serious threat of violent attacks by armed groups against tourists. To this category belong countries such as Egypt, Syria, Mali and Libya, in this order.
International SOS places Mexico in sixth place, within the category of high risk, which corresponds to those places where violent protests frequently take place - which may affect tourists - as well as violent and terrorism crimes due to the political instability and problems with neighboring countries.
Although in some parts of the Aztec country they are free of any type of violence, this organism argues that that which derives from drug trafficking has increased over the last few years in the Ibero-American country, concentrating on specific areas. Also, remember that the states of Guerrero and Mexico City have recently experienced outbreaks of violence for political reasons.
Finally, it is highlighted that the Mexican government is protecting tourist places such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel or Puerto Vallarta in which several incidents with gunfire have been recorded since last year.
