Mexican Beef reported that during the first eight months of this year, Mexico was the second-largest supplier of beef to the U.S., with Canada and New Zealand completing the top 3. In total, the United States reduced its total imports by 8%, acquiring just over 735,000 tons.

This year Mexico has exported 174,859 tons to the United States, according to figures reported by Mexican Beef, up to August, this figure is 9% lower than the same period in 2020. In its publication, the agency said that despite this slowdown in shipments, Mexico managed to remain the second-largest supplier of this meat to the U.S., with a 24% share of its market.

Up to last month, Mexico exported 207,214 tons of animal protein to the United States, including beef, pork, and chicken. Canada continued to occupy a first place as an exporter, with the exchange of 227,041 tons of bovine meat, which marked an interannual increase of 10% and represented 31% of U.S. purchases.

The third-largest exporter of this product to the U.S. was New Zealand, with an accumulated tonnage in the first eight months of the year that amounted to 123,497 tons, 6% lower than in the same period of 2021. Finally, the information showed that between January and August, the North American country purchased a total of 735,107 tons of beef, a volume that was 8% lower than that imported in the same period of 2020.
