On the occasion of the summer holidays, the Municipal Directorate of Civil Protection in Cancun doubled the number of lifeguards it generally has on the beaches, going from 17 to 34.

Recommendations for tourists

The first thing to do is to check the flag: green is an open beach; yellow, caution, and red, which must be taken care of; in addition, you must locate the lifeguards. It should be considered that, if you have drunk, you should not go into the sea or drive. If you ate, wait between 30 and 40 minutes.

Don't let children out of your sight either.

The Municipal Direction works with hotels, nightclubs, places where people are concentrated, to verify compliance with safety measures, regardless of permits and authorizations. That they have an emergency plan, which stipulates protocols in case of a contingency, what each staff member must do, he said.

Pool Safety

Establishments that have a pool and beach must have an aquatic plan that stipulates safety measures for beaches and swimming pools, and how to act in the event of an accident. This is joint work with the Federal Police, Navy, Army, Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone, Public Services, Transit, and Public Safety. While the recommendations are in force throughout the year, "in holidays we tighten more," said the head of the agency, Antonio Fonseca Leon.
