There will be Ironman Cozumel this year

The Cozumel authorities confirmed the realization of the Ironman 70.3 and the Ironman Cozumel, in September and November 2020, respectively.

Ironman 70.3 and Ironman Cozumel were confirmed by the Cozumel authorities in September and November 2020, respectively. Organizers estimate that there will be 3,000 competitors between the two events and an economic income of over 200 million pesos (8.9 million USD). In a statement, the Tourism Promotion Council of Quintana Roo and the Organizing Committee of these competitions indicated that they will work to carry out both events with the necessary health measures.

According to both organizations, the Ironman already has the approval of the state and municipal authorities, "following the protection and prevention guidelines issued by the World Health Organization and the International Triathlon Union".

Among the measures contemplated for this year are the elimination of non-essential activities and alternate events, to reduce the number of volunteers, monitoring of all competitors, officials, staff, and volunteers, to verify their health, modification of processes in areas such as registration, expo, transition, start, finish and recovery, to maintain social distance and reduce interaction among participants.

Cozumel's Ironman 70.3 will take place on September 27, and will consist of 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, and 21 km running. The Ironman Cozumel is scheduled for November 22 and will feature 3.6-kilometer swimming, 180-kilometer cycling, and 42-kilometer running. Organizers estimate that there will be 3,000 competitors between the two events and an economic income of over 200 million pesos.
