Footwear from Norte de Santander in the sights of Peru and Mexico

This Tuesday, the 39th International Fair of Leather, Footwear, Leather Goods, Inputs and Technology (IFLS + EICI) was inaugurated, an event organized by the Colombian Association of Footwear, Leather and Manufactures Manufacturers (Acicam), which will have the participation of 40 entrepreneurs from the region.

The opening ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Ivan Duque, who highlighted the achievements in matters of tax reduction to companies before industrialists.

In turn, the president referred to the difficulties of generating business in the country and noted that almost 80% of the revenue collection in the country is generated by 3,700 companies, information released during his speech.

For its part, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, José Manuel Restrepo, explained that the leather, footwear and leather goods sector accounts for 1.6% of industrial GDP and added that it is responsible for generating around 140,000 jobs of work.

The fair attracted the attention of 69 companies from 17 countries that accepted the invitation of ProColombia to know the offer and make new business or strengthen commercial alliances with national suppliers. This year they expect to surpass the 2.5 million dollars in businesses that were obtained during the last edition.

Claritza Ferrer, of the Fashion Cluster of the Chamber of Commerce of Cúcuta, highlighted that 37 companies from Norte de Santander will have a business round with six international buyers, within the framework of the fair.

This opportunity is made to diversify the local market, affected by the loss of the main commercial partner of the city (Venezuela).

With an articulated work between the Chamber of Commerce and the Pacific Alliance, the visit of buyers coming from Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru were managed.

Buyers will meet today and tomorrow with local footwear companies and will have logistical support from Acicam.

"The buyers are looking for finished products of leather and leather goods, strategic allies to commercialize brands, supplies and commercialize the largest," said Ferrer.
