Every 17 minutes a commercial plane flies the Mexico City - Cancun route

During the most recent version of Routes Americas 2019 in Quebec, Canada the organizer of the event revealed in an interesting new report which is the most congested and demanded route in America. The domestic flight of two hours and 30 minutes between Mexico City and the tourist destination of Cancun is the busiest passenger air route in America with an average of 86 flights per day, that is, one every 17 minutes.

According to preliminary figures from Saber Market Intelligence, a total of 4.87 million passengers flew between Mexico City and Cancun in 2018, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to the previous 12 months. The MEX-CUN route is served by four airlines: Aeroméxico, Interjet, Volaris and Vivaaerobus.

Last year, more than 3.9 million passengers traveled between São Paulo Airport Congonhas (CGH) and Santos Dumont Airport in Rio de Janeiro (SDU), although the figure was a decrease of 4.6 percent compared with 2017, which places it in second place.

Completing the first five places is the Colombian national route of Bogota (BOG) - Medellín (MDE) with 3.89 million passengers; Los Angeles (LAX) - San Francisco (SFO) with 3.66 million and Los Angeles (LAX) - New York JFK (JFK) with 3.60 million.

The Routesonline research also found the ten main routes that have grown at the fastest speed in the last 12 months, where the Quito - Guayaquil route is one of them. This was compiled by ranking the top 100 routes in the Americas during 2018 by a number of passengers and calculating the percentage change as of 2017.

At number one is Los Angeles (LAX) - Boston (BOS), which added more than 320,000 passengers during the 12-month period. More than 1.65 million passengers flew on the route in 2018, compared to 1.33 million in 2017.

The increase occurred when bidirectional capacity increased by 23 percent to 1.88 million available seats, according to figures from OAG Schedules Analyzer. The growth was driven mainly by American Airlines, which added almost 170,000 seats; United Airlines, which totaled more than 110,000; and JetBlue, which increased capacity by almost 94,000.

Belo Horizonte (CNF) - Sao Paulo (GRU) is the second fastest growing route among the top 100, while Santiago (SCL) - Sao Paulo (GRU) is the third.

It is important to note that the main routes of America are mainly in Latin America and not in the United States, as you might have thought.
