Cancun, second destination for congresses in Mexico
Cancun is the second destination in Mexico with the largest number of congresses and meetings, a segment that has maintained steady growth in recent years, said Rafael Hernández, president of the Mexican Committee of the International Association of Congresses and Conventions (ICCA).
It is estimated that the tourism of meetings brings a growth rate of 12 percent per year in the collection of congresses, conventions and corporate events in Mexico. On the subject of exhibitions, it behaves differently because they are not itinerant, since they mostly depend on the local market.
However, the arrival of more global exhibitions is being slowed down in the country due to issues such as uncertainty in investments, such as the canceled airport in Mexico City, the lack of certainty in the actions of the federal government, affects the Buyers of global exhibitions.
In the 2018 Ranking, which is the one that reflects the events of 2017, Mexico obtained the 22nd position worldwide, while at the country level, the second destination for attracting events is Cancún; the first is Mexico City with 64 events in world congresses and the second is Cancun with 28 world congresses.
