By 2025 or no later than 2030, Mexico will only produce electric cars that will bring great benefits to society, said the general director of the Automotive Cluster in Jalisco, Alexandro Burgueño Rodríguez.
By 2025 or no later than 2030, Mexico will only produce electric cars
In an interview, he said that for now the automotive sector is preparing for the conversion and in the specific case of Jalisco, for the supply of parts for the electric system and also for the autonomous car that would be in Mexico in about 20 years.
He indicated that together with the government of Jalisco they are working to identify the companies that have the potential to become suppliers of auto parts for the electric vehicle, in addition to the issue of infrastructure.
"Virtually everything is set and many assemblers will stop producing internal combustion cars, although the biggest challenge is the infrastructure, that is, establish cargo locations," he explained.
He said that there are two Mexican companies that are already producing electric cars, one in the State of Mexico and the other in Puebla, but there are others that are going to be transformed and he repeated that in the case of Jalisco the strong will be the supply. With regard to the benefits, he stressed that an electric car requires less maintenance, energy consumption is little and is not polluting, meaning that for the user it will be more economical to have a vehicle with these characteristics and the ecological issue is invaluable.
"Normally, startups are expensive cars because the production is low, which means that the initial investment is expensive but then you get back in the energy part. However, as production increases, the price decreases, "he said. He commented that the idea is to start promoting the electric car here and said that there are several entrepreneurs who are making prototype electric cars.
"The Tecnológico de Monterrey has the Auto Center of the Future that ended last year and that is focused towards that part towards the electric car and the autonomous one".
On the other hand, he announced that they plan to increase the production of cars in the country.
"Last year there were three million 800 thousand cars and this 2019 is intended to reach the top four million cars produced here in Mexico."
